What does it mean to be a great writer?
A lot of it, really is just dogged persistence. My favorite writing quote of all time is by Jack London:
You can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.
People who don’t write often have a romantic view of what we writers do. They think we spend all our time staring out of frosted windows, occasionally lowering our heads to tap gracefully on our laptop keyboards.
The reality, as you well know, is far from that.
Sometimes, writing is just plain work.
Hitting a word count or time goal every day can be, well, dull. Working up inspiration for a new blog post or story can feel like looking for an oasis in the desert. Searching for the right words to express our thoughts is like drilling into unforgiving rock for hours, hoping against hope that we’ll hit water.
And yet we continue to write, because every once in a while, we DO have those miraculous, incredible experiences, when inspiration strikes like blessed lightning, when the words flow faster than we can type, when our readers tell us how we have changed their lives for the better.
This month, you will be embarking on a daily challenge to produce a certain quantity of words per day, depending on what goal you chose for yourself.
But you are not alone. Around the world, the beginning of the year is a time when aspiring writers set New Years’ Resolutions and tell themselves that THIS is the year they will finally get off their butt and go after their writing.
To be honest, many of those writers are not going to make it. I can’t give you an exact percentage, but the reasons vary, from lack of commitment to lack of structure. That’s why Writers Ignited is here, to provide the scaffolding that will give YOU the best chance of succeeding.
Every day you will receive a check in email that may or may not lead to a daily gift. And at the end of the month, if you stuck to the plan you set for yourself, you’ll have earned a surprise Grand Prize. So keep your eyes on the goal and your fingers (and brain) at the ready ~ you got this!
Warmly,
Sarah
