When I was about ten years old, my piano teacher decided to go around the room and ask each student what they wanted to be when they grew up.
My classmates all gave the usual and expected answers: doctor, teacher, lawyer, musician…but when it was my turn, I said:
“I want to be a writer.”
The room froze. My teacher gaped at me. And then she scoffed: “That’s a silly dream!”

And that’s when the idea of writing came crashing back.
So I decided to give it a try. Only this time, instead of treating it like some kind of shameful side hobby, I REALLY dug in. After all, I had nothing to lose.

I became a writer.
